AUSTIN PORTFOLIO NIGHT 2018
Thinking about going to college for art? Austin Portfolio Night, part of National Portfolio Day, is great way to find out your options. This serves a variety of purposes. Most importantly, this helps further the development of young artists by bringing together experienced college representatives to review artwork, and offer critique. You'll hear many different opinions about your portfolio in one place who share a powerful commitment to the arts. This experience is a small taste of what attending a professional art program can be like. For more information, please click on the button below.
For more information about the event - what is it, why should I attend, how to prepare for it, and what to expect, please click on the button below to access the National Portfolio Day Brochure.
ANDERSON VISUAL ARTS + COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
We are currently working on a project for Texas Children’s Hospital in Austin through H Marion Art Consultants, Inc. Texas Children’s Hospital has long been focused on incorporating the identity of the community into their spaces, and through this have been supportive of the arts within the communities they serve. This project is being built in your neighborhoods. Texas Children’s Hospital administrators strive to include a robust showing of children’s art in many of their locations. In exchange for participation, this program offers students a unique experience that will hopefully inspire a life long appreciation of the arts.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Contest is known for being the most fresh and relevant look at creative work by young artists today. If you want to know what issues are on the minds of teenagers, this contest provides valuable insights through the lens of sophisticated and captivating artworks. The Scholastic Awards look for work that demonstrates originality, technical skill, and emergence of personal voice or vision. Since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America's most celebrated artists while they were teenagers, including: Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Idelle Weber, Ken Burns, Paul Chan, and Kay WalkingStick. This year, we are proud to count these students among the esteemed Scholastic alumni.

Texas High School Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) began its 25th season in January of 2019. The first VASE event was held in 1994 with just over 400 student entries; in 2018, over 35,000 artworks were entered in VASE. Students create artworks, write about their creative processes and understanding of visual art, and articulate information about their artwork during an interview with a VASE juror, who evaluates their work using a standards-based rubric. Artworks receiving a superior rating (IV) are presented a regional medal. A set percentage of artworks with superior ratings advance to the State Event and are presented an area medal.
The Anderson Visual Art students recently participated in VASE at San Marcos High School. There were 154 art students participating and 141 of them received a superior rating (IV) which is the highest possible score in the regional judging. Of those 141 students, 22 will advance to the State VASE competition on April 27, 2019.
